PHOTOGRAPHY BIRMINGHAM

Here is my portfolio of photography Birmingham portfolio. I regularly work in Bristol, Brighton, Essex, Exeter, Kent, Leicester, London, Oxford, Peterborough, Salisbury, Southampton Sussex, and the South Coast.

I have clients all over the country, and I am happy to travel. I live 10-15 minutes from the M25, around 5 minutes from the M3, and 25 minutes from the M4 near Reading East, so it is pretty easy for me to get just about anywhere in the UK.

I do sometimes go further North, but generally, it would mean working for a whole day shoot or more, rather than just a few hours.  It is always worth contacting me, for a quote; all prices are fully inclusive of mileage charges. However, the only extras will be parking and any congestion charges.

FutureMeds

Soho Health Centre, Soho Road, Birmingham B21 9RY – photography Birmingham

FutureMeds commissioned images of their therapy rooms used to conduct drug trials on new treatments.

This was a new facility and wasn’t entirely set up, so it was a case of shooting from angles not to show missing curtains, and other unfinished items, plus the problem of having to move unwanted furniture to the corridor for the shoot.

Medical facilities are easy to work with, as they are clean and bright, plus they have white ceilings, ideal for bouncing a flash off.

Holmes Noble

Birmingham Business Park, Solihull Parkway Birmingham B37 7YN – photography Birmingham

This recruitment consultancy hired me for headshots and a management group shot for their website. It is quite usual to be done over three visits as it is always difficult to get everyone in at the same time.

We did two versions of the group shot, one on the roof of their building, but the sun was very strong, so I also shot them in the soft studio light and dropped the image in front of a local building, as an alternative.

IQ Glass

Selly Oak, Birmingham, B74 3AF – photography Birmingham

Stunning newly built house, which featured a spectacular amount of glass installation, and was done over two visits, the latter being when the whole project was finished.

Unfortunately on the first visit, the site still looked like a building site, so it was not possible to get good outside shots of the front and back, so rather than try to retouch the images; I arranged to go back, next time I was in the area, and the results looked spectacular.

London Electric Taxi Company

Ansty, Coventry CV7 9RF – photography Birmingham

Shots were taken of the production line in this huge factory, the size of several football pitches.  These beige cabs were being completed and ready to be shipped out to Germany for an Exhibition.

The lighting was challenging as this building had extremely high ceilings, and there was very little chance of supplementing the ambient light.

Luckily it was pretty bright, and by increasing the ISO speed on the camera, I was able to create the desired effect.

Playground Games

Leamington Spa, Coventry CV32 4EA – photography Birmingham

Here are some fun candid shots of the staff, and of the facility of a video gaming company. Firstly we shot a number of candid portraits for the website opening page.

I highlighted the different roles within the company, for example, sound, video, and research. I also photographed people working on their computers.

Luckily the ceilings were white, so just a case of bouncing lights off the ceiling for a nice soft even light.

Provest Wealth

NEC, Birmingham B40 1NT – photography Birmingham

I was commissioned to do headshots of all of the staff of a large investment company.

After looking at various options, It was decided that they images would be produced in black and white, and toned blue to match their corporate colours.

I found this job to be a very straightforward headshot shoot. It took two visits to make sure everyone within the company were photographed.

Thai Embassy, at the Good Food Festival

NEC Birmingham B40 1NT – photography Birmingham

I was asked to attend the event, doing a few hours a day for four days to document the stand and cooking demonstrations. The stand itself had several companies selling Thai cooking ingredients.

Luckily it was well lit, so there was just a case of increasing the ISO on the camera and using available light. I did a mixture of wide angle and candid shots on a long lens, plus photographing the finished dishes being prepared by the chefs.

Siemens

ITM Imaging Centre, Birmingham B15 2TH – photography Birmingham

This is the Installation of a new MRI scanner. Siemens were testing but also supporting the NHS by taking some of the workload at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The scanner are never turned off, and the magnetic field they generate proves fatal to photographic equipment, so all of the shots have to be taken from outside the room. It was a case of trying to position a portable flash, to hit the ceiling from outside the room to light the inside room.

Stalis Arden Hotel and Leisure Club

Birmingham B92 0EH – photography Birmingham

I worked for this company around a year ago, and did headshots and group shots.

I covered their annual conference and training, to shoot individual headshots and group shots of the various departments, in an Oxford hotel

This year they were in a hotel near the Airport in Birmingham, so I set up for headshots outside their conference room, and the hotel.

This shoot was to promote a new clothing range, aimed at sporty people. The first half was shot in a Birmingham Studio, on a white background.

Then we went on to a Gym location, to shoot using the gym equipment, plus a few shots of the models in the adjoining underground car park

The Models were great to work with and we got some high quality shots at the end of the day.

Yard O Led Birmingham Studio

130 Pershore Street, Birmingham B5 6ND – photography Birmingham

I often use Yard O Led Studio. I worked for a company that make beautiful silver writing instruments,

I have done a few shoots for them now.  I do find each shoot quite challenging, as most of their pens pencils and fountain pens are very highly decorated and have a mirror finish.

Once the lighting is corrected, it is very rewarding as they are beautiful handmade objects

Hopkins and Dainty

Tamworth Birmingham B78 3PX – photography Birmingham

This was a very urgent recent job, to photograph this house for marketing, it’s not usually the sort of thing that I do, but it was urgent, and the agents were in competition with another agency.

It was quite a large stunning house, so it took a few hours to complete.

However, everything worked out well, and the images were all online the following morning.

Great Photographic Locations around Birmingham and surrounding areas

Sutton Park is the largest urban park in Europe, it has open heathland, woodlands, seven lakes, wetlands and marshes each with its unique variety of plants and wildlife, so there should be plenty of different backgrounds.

Birmingham Botanical Gardens, there is lots of photo opportunities here from Butterfly houses to tropical greenhouses, with acres of gardens to investigate.

Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park, this gives you the opportunity to see and photograph animals from all over the world. You may need to get permission if this is for commercial purposes.

Centenary Square is a modern development, with great architecture and water which would make an interesting background for portraits and groups of people.

Library of Birmingham, Modern building with a spectacular interior and exterior, I am sure with the interior in particular, you could get some stunning abstract images.

Birmingham Canals – Several large canals are routed through Birmingham, including the Grand Union Canal, Worcester and Birmingham Canal, Stourbridge Canal, and the Stratford Canal, being a major industrial city, most goods were originally transported by Canal. These days they are largely used for leisure, but it gives a great view into Birmingham’s industrial heritage

Birmingham’s Jewellery quarter gives a historic insight into its past, but is still a thriving industry today with over 800 independent businesses, it has also become a busy social area with many restaurants and bars.
