PHOTOGRAPHY ESSEX

Here is my photography Essex Portfolio.  I regularly work in Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Essex, Exeter, Kent, Leicester, London, Oxford, Peterborough, Salisbury, Sussex, and the South Coast.

I have clients all over the country, and I am happy to travel. I live 10-15 minutes from the M25, around 5 minutes from the M3, and 25 minutes from the M4 near Reading East, so it is pretty easy for me to get just about anywhere in the UK.

I do sometimes go further North, but generally, it would mean working for a whole day shoot or more, rather than just a few hours.  It is always worth contacting me, for a quote; all prices are fully inclusive of mileage charges. However, the only extras will be parking and any congestion charge.

I did several jobs for Aspect, they imported and sold various items on the wholesale market, which included Rugs, Mirrors, Lamps, small items of furniture, ornaments, and chairs.
I used to shoot at their premises, where they had a large showroom, with a wooden flooring area, and I constructed a painted canvas screen, so we had a totally clean plain background.

There were also a few small corner sets in which small or medium-sized objects could be photographed. I always take plenty of lighting equipment with me, and on these shoots it was mainly a case of using flashheads with large softboxes attached to them to give a nice even light.

Box Perfect Clacton CO15 4TR – Photography Essex

Box Perfect were based in Essex, and they made small runs of bespoke boxes, for all sorts of items, most of their boxes are hand finished, and they work for several bespoke brands.

On this occasion, it was much easier for them to send the boxes to me, to be photographed in the studio, as the lighting needed to be perfect.

The backgrounds needed to be plain, so as not to compete with the packaging, but also add something to the shot.

They varied in size hugely from tiny perfume boxes, mid sized chocolate boxes, to a huge 1 metre long triangular box, which was made to carry the torches for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Clegg Gifford 37 Long Wyre Street, Colchester CO1 1LJ – Photography Essex

I was asked to record the opening of a new insurance office in Colchester, Essex for Clegg Gifford, a firm of Insurance brokers. The brief was to cover the opening event.
To add interest to the event, they had hired two performers who were dressed as super hero’s, who were going to wander around the town centre, handing out leaflets.
I shot a few outside shots, although the weather was not great, and then concentrated on capturing the action and the people inside, and also did a few dusk shots of the outside, before it got totally dark.

Lush Colchester 2-3 Trinity Street CO1 1JR – Photography Essex

I was asked by the Lush Cosmetics Company, if I could take some shots of their new store in Colchester, Essex, just before it was opened to the public.
The store was split up into several areas for each product type, so I concentrated on taking individual shots of the areas, plus general shots of the whole store.
it was one of those shops that is quite narrow, but goes back a long way, with only the front shop window for daylight. Luckily the inside was quite well-lit with artificial light, which can sometimes be a problem.  Furthermore, it’s difficult to use additional lighting, firstly without it being seen, or creating hotspots around its location.

Mid Essex NHS Hospitals Trust – Photography Essex

I was asked to do around a week’s work for the Mid Essex NHS Hospitals Trust, which meant visiting and photographing every department in the four hospitals required.
Logistically this is a very difficult job as you can’t take any more equipment than you can carry around with you.

Luckily all of the hospitals were pretty modern, so had large windows. Furthermore, they are well-lit to start with, so I just had a camera bag with a couple of camera bodies, 3 lenses, and a portable flash unit.

Everything worked out well, the lighting was sufficient, although I did have to set the ISO speed on the camera a little higher than I would have liked. However, the results were great and I found the hospital staff were extremely helpful.

I got some good shots, the only problem was navigating the vast buildings, and fatigue from the miles covered in endless hospital corridors.

Spinal Muscular Atrophy Basildon SS16 3UH – Photography Essex

I was contacted by the Charity, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, to attend and photograph their family day out, at the Wat Tyler Country Park, Near Basildon in Essex.

Luckily the weather was good and everybody enjoyed themselves.

From my perspective these events are all very straightforward. Quite often people ask me to take a group shot, or children want shots of themselves with one of the characters in costume at the event.

I also took some candid shots of the Children watching the magic show.
It was also a good opportunity for the parents of the children with the condition, to see and try out the various pieces of equipment.  This would allow to help their children become more independent.

We Do Feering CO5 9SE – Photography Essex

This was a very straightforward shoot, a small financial company they wanted headshots, plus some general office shots, and a few casual shots outside their Building, Near Feering in Essex. This is the sort of job I do a couple of times a month.

Generally, I will take along a white background, with stands to support it, three flasheads, two with softboxes to light the person, and the third light with a floor stand to light the background.

It is important that I don’t allow any shadows from my front lights to be visible on the background, this way it is independently lit.

The same lights can then be used to light the space, if we are doing some more general shots around the office.

We also did some outside shots during this shoot, the sun was very bright and the contrast was high, so I used a soft fill in flash on the camera just to lift the shadows, and balance up the lighting.

Great Photography Essex Locations

I often work in Essex, as it is easy to get to from me, providing the Dartford tunnel and crossing are behaving themselves, I always think it has a slightly unfortunate reputation, but there are some genuinely beautiful locations in Essex, Mersea Island is beautiful, with its photogenic beach as is the coast heading north from Clacton,  there are also some lovely country villages in Essex, such as Finchingfield and Wendens Ambo, ideal for photoshoots.
