PHOTOGRAPHY EXETER

Here is my photography Exeter portfolio.  I regularly work in Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Essex, Exeter, Kent, Leicester, London, Oxford, Peterborough, Salisbury Southampton, Sussex, and the South Coast.

I have clients all over the country, and I am happy to travel. I live 10-15 minutes from the M25, around 5 minutes from the M3, and 25 minutes from the M4 near Reading East, so it is pretty easy for me to get just about anywhere in the UK.

I do sometimes go further North, but generally, it would mean working for a whole day shoot or more, rather than just a few hours.  It is always worth contacting me, for a quote; all prices are fully inclusive of mileage charges. However, the only extras will be parking and any congestion charges.

British Legion – Photography Exeter

I had a call from the British Legion, who were looking for a photographer to do some shots.  This was for a course they were running in conjunction with Morrisons supermarket, to re-integrate ex service people back into civilian life.
The main requirements were some shots in the classroom, where Morrisons had kindly lent them one of their training rooms to use for the sessions.

It was all very straightforward for me, it was quite a small room so just a portable bounced flash unit, for all of the interior shots.  I varied the shots between wide angles for the whole group, and some close-up candid shots of individuals.

Then of course a group shot with the Morrisons Branding.

EDF Energy – Photography Exeter

EDF asked me to quote on doing some headshots for them, for their South West Region.  EDF still has a large number of staff working from home, which would take place over 4 days.

I took my usual headshot kit with me, which consisted of three flash heads, two softboxes, a white background, and stands leads.

The shoot consisted of three half days, one at a local hotel, two at a local conference centre, and a full day at their main offices.

Every was straightforward, where I did lots of headshots and the odd group shot.
The only problem I faced, was at the conference center; as the room had large glass windows all around the perimeter. Therefore, on one of the days, some very bright, late afternoon sunlight came into the room.

This caused a few issues and meant moving the set-up a couple of times.

Leonardo Hotels – Photography Exeter

I had a call from a marketing Agency, regarding the rebranding of Jury’s Inn Hotels to Leonardo Hotels. They needed some external photographs of the Leonardo Hotel in Exeter.

We decided that it would look good if it was shot around dusk, so I aimed to get there at around 3.00 pm. The weather was looking hopeful, as it was sunny most of the journey. Unfortunately, as I got closer to Exeter, the weather changed from mist to thick fog, as I approached Exeter.

Fortunately, when I arrived at the hotel, it was clear, and after a walk around the hotel, I identified two possible angles to shoot it. I decided to shoot the hotel sign on that side of the building using a height viewpoint from the car park stairs opposite.

There was a very busy road outside, and by putting the camera on a sturdy tripod. I was able to take several shots, and piece together an empty road from the parts of many shots.

Marriott Hotel – Photography Exeter

This was a shoot for the main contractors responsible for the New Marriot Hotel in Exeter. It was a shoot that covered the whole hotel from the bedrooms, bars restaurants and common areas.

We had to do a bit of juggling, as although the Hotel wasn’t open to the public yet, there was a lot of staff training in progress, plus still snagging going on behind the scenes.

The job involved a bit of rearranging furniture. On large spaces like this, you have to rely on the natural daylight, plus the internal lighting, as it’s far too large an area to light, so a sturdy tripod is a must.

Rotadex Storage – Photography Exeter

I had a call from Rotadex, who specialises in storage systems. They wanted shots of a new archive system that they had installed at the South West Heritage Centre in Exeter.

The new system replaced ancient wooded cabinets and shelves.  Therefore, removing them gave a much larger capacity, including corridor space.

In many ways, it was quite a tricky job, as it was difficult to light without getting hot spots.

The area was very full and quite cramped, and the content varied from old books to maps and other loose documents.

There was a certain amount of re-arranging and tidying to do as well.

Wren Kitchens – Photography Exeter

I was booked to cover the opening of a new Wren Kitchens showroom in Exeter. They were looking for pictures of the showroom, with the kitchen sets.

The opening ceremony which was going to be performed by the local Mayoress.  We also did some candid shots of the general public looking around the showroom.

It was nice and bright, so a reasonably high ISO speed on the camera gave me a safe shutter speed and aperture combination, also when shooting candid shots on a longer lens.

After the shoot, there was the usual rush to get some pictures to their PR agency for distribution to the press.

Great Photography Exeter Locations and surrounding area

Exeter is another place well worth visiting for photographic backgrounds, the Cathedral and surroundings are stunning, if you are looking for a more nautical background, the Quayside is well worth a visit, as is Rougemont Castle, on the north side of the city walls.

If you are looking for a more floral background, Pinces gardens has a 45 metres long spectacular Wisteria arch, ideal for those romantic shots.

Gandy Street is interesting, a traditional cobbled street, and was reputably the inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling

I have always found that once you get to Exeter, other locations in Devon don’t really take long to get to, so Dartmoor is always worth a visit with miles of beautiful rugged scenery to drive through with lots of Dartmoor Ponies, streams and rocky outcrops, all of which make great photo opportunities.

If you are interested in Georgian architecture, the coastal town of Sidmouth is well worth visiting its about 15 miles from Exeter, has a very attractive town with a large beach and Red cliffs.

If you are looking for more costal scenery, South Devon is relatively quick to get to from Exeter, where you have the traditional tourist resorts of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham, but if you carry on there are some great beaches around Dartmouth, Kingsbridge Bigbury and Salcombe, plus beautiful countryside.
